Royal Mail now only compensates cost price for businesses, is that allowed?

So how much does the RM insurance cost you and how many breakages/ losses do you have?
Is it worth insuring at all? Do the sums.

If they're a sole trader it is their profit. It's what they're charging to do the work.
If it were a business employing someone to manufacture the widget for you, then fair enough, but that's not the case in this example ("plus the hourly rate of the time you took to make it").1 -
My impression is that the OP doesn’t buy insurance specifically. There’s some cover included in the standard postage rates iirc. The OP uses Royal Mail because they don’t exclude pottery which many other carriers do exclude. But now he’s come up against this other issue.
