Hi everyone, This is my first time on this site so apologies if Ive put anything in the wrong place.
My dell laptop crashed a week ago (not sure what happend) Windows would not load so took it to my local pc shop, he said there was a hardware problem and that his dell windows system restore cd would not work. So I stood in the shop and did it myself (still had to pay him 25 quid wot a waste). The system started (which left a very ashamed shop keeper). So he would not help me further as i did it myself. Now the hardware is not installed properly on my laptop as there is no sound from the speakers and my keyboard keys are mixed up, also i ran a free scan through Reg Cure which detected 406 errors on my hard drive but to fix the errors reg cure want me to subscribe for a license number. Does anyone have this please? Or is there any similar product I could use to get rid of the errors.

Sorry for the ever so long boring post.
Lookin forward to your replies!!!!

You need to set the keyboard settings to UK in Regional Settings and you need to install the soundcard drivers.
Forget what that "Reg Cure" tells you - they're rubbish anyway.0 -
Sounds like you disk is dying, it may genuinely not have booted when the pc shopkeeper first tried it. If it was mine, I'd look to replace the disk first, then reinstall Windows and the Dell drivers.0

Hi Conor, Thanks for that how do I go about installing soundcard drivers I think they are already in the hardware, But The Volume Panel says no device found. Its a bit complicated. Go to Dell's website, choose the support/downloads section and put in your model (or the TAG number printed on the underside). This should then take you to the section where you can download drivers for any hardware components which don't work with the "generic" windows drivers.
While you're there, see if they have a Diagnostic Disk download. If so, get that and see if SMART (the utility that monitors for increases in HDD errors) has tripped on your hard drive. If it has, your HDD is almost certainly on it's way out. If not, it might still be... But if you've had to force it to shutdown recently, that can sometimes corrupt system files.0
