How Long Left On Your Passport To Go to France ?

Hi,
Does anyone know if there is a limit to the number of valid months you need to have on your passport to go to France ?

My sister is playing to go there from 27th July until 5th Aug but her passport runs out on 15th August 05. Can she still go on this passport or will she need to get a new one ASAP ?

Thanks

As long as the passport is valid on the day she returns, she will be fine....it is the Eu after all, not the Soviet !

Hopefully it will be OK but I should check if I were you - either phone the French Embassy in London or a travel agent.

We are going to book a medditeranean (sp?) holiday from about middle of July and my husband's passport runs out Nov 05. We have been advised that some countries, like Greece, require your passport to have 6 MONTHS left on it on your return. Other countries ie Spain and Portugal require 3 months.

Seems ridiculous doesn't it? Hopefully France is more reasonable, but I'd advise you to check.

You know you are not going for a little while, why don't you just renew your passport? Up to nine months will get carried over. Also if you renew now you avoid any potential renewal price increases.

I seriously suggest you change your passport. I have been told that you will not be allowed to travel without at least 6 months left on a passport.

If your sister is a British citizen with a British passport she should be ok.Go to Google
and type in "passport requirements travelling to France" and it looks as if the passport will be ok.You can actually travel with a current valid id card.

As an additional check go to the website of the company she is traveling with and see
what their requirements are.If she booked through a travel agent, contact them instead.

The safest option would be to renew, since one of the reasons that countries prefer
some leeway on the passport is because of illness for example where the person is unable to travel until after the expiry date has passed. One would not want to have to get a new passport under those circumstances.
Another reason for a delay could be for legal, reasons-being involved in serious car accidents etc.I am sure there are other reasons as well-but you get the picture.

I would suggest always renewing if your passport has less than six months left on the day of travel - even to the EU as each country has different rules.

If it is noticed, best case you'll get a polite reminder, worst case: you'll be told off, possibly a baggage search for good measure, maybe in exteme cases the airline being fined and worse, you'll be sent back. It's highly unlikely in the EU but still a good idea not to assume anything.

You just need to be checked by someone who's in a bad mood or arrive in an airport that rarely handles international flights (eg certain US airports) for them to get picky.
