How to adjust cistern
We've discovered the overflow on our RAK cistern is letting water run into the pan. I can't see how to adjust the height of the float. Can anyone please advise from this setup?

THAT is not overflowing into the cistern… that'd need water level to be at top of open white pipe and probably leak from the fixing screw holes.
It's the flush valve rubber that needs cleaning / replacing. They usually are bayonet clip fixings to remove from cistern and work on (water off, naturally).
You just need to identify the brand fitted (Google Lens?) to get the spare parts. Or take to a plumbers merchant when removed.
Shorten the white overflow pipe slightly before refitting ideally.

Thanks for that. Which bit/where is the flush valve rubber?

It's the bit that the two buttons operate and the overflow pipe is attached to… The rubber seal of the valve is at the bottom and lifts to flush water into the loo, then drops back to seal.
The whole thing usually twists then lifts up out of a 'cage' in the bottom of cistern.
DO search for that specific one to find instructions / spares first. Sometimes the clips can break, then the whole thing needs replaced which is a pita on close coupled toilets. I know I've seen that style before but can't find it so far.

How do you know that the cistern isn't half-full, i.e. in the process of filling up?

It wasn't.

Just noticed what a !!!!!! job the plumber made of screwing the back of the cistern. Typical of some of the work he did.
