Unable to submit meter reading to British Gas

I've repeatedly tried to submit today's reading.

At first I could not log in - "something went wrong" message keeps flashing up, not even for long enough to take a screenshot.

Then log in but get the "something went wrong" message again.

The home page says to send a meter reading by 15 April. However, I can't remember whether the BG system allows you to enter the date of the reading. I seem to recall that it does. Is that correct? Has anyone else been able to submit a reading today?

It does not matter if anyone else has the same issue, give it a day and try again tomorrow, only if the issue persists is it something to worry about, especially as the British Gas website says it is currently down for planned maintenance this morning.

You can use BG's automated service, you’ll just need your customer account number and meter reads to hand.

If your customer account number starts with an A or BGX then call 0330 054 5340.    If your customer account number starts with 85 then call 0330 100 0056.

Or you could get a smart meter. Moving to a decent supplier would be a bonus, too.

Interesting - the website isn't displaying a notice about that when I access it. Neither earlier nor just now.

At least BG invoice me monthly for what I've used.

Whereas Ovo won't allow me to pay monthly according to what I have actually used and won't even allow me to notify them of a different account from which to take the DD. So I've left the DD where it is as I know they would try to double the monthly DD right now if I cancelled the current DD and advised them of the preferred account.

In the OP I asked "whether the BG system allows you to enter the date of the reading".

I don't think anyone addressed that aspect but, in case anyone is interested, it seems my memory was correct and I should be able to specify the date when I eventually get to being able to tell them the number as long as it is before 15 April.

I have just inputted my readings via my online accounts but neither account (gas and electric) did not refer or let me 'enter the date of the reading". I hope this helps. I also emailed them photos of my readings (my experience with BG could have been better).

IIRC the old SG system - so I guess the old BG system - used to presume the date was the date you submitted them on - but would use that to update any prediction for the 1st of the month.

So I suspect even if you phone a reading in today - it might well adjust to a pseudo midnight estimate - and show as such on the statements.

I've never bothered on the day as they allowed at least a week in past. So I've always seen estimated readings on cap change days on my old parental account I ran under POA.

I have a smart meter but got an email today asking for readings.

20 minutes online chat for them to say it was a glitch. They now have the readings.

    What poor customer service.
