Pet insurance

Having got a quote for Dog (Puppy) insurance for £29.18 mth, I was surprised that it was cheaper if purchased though Gocompare or Money Supermarket, £25.99 mth.

Particularly surprising as my "M&S sparks" card promised a discount.

Having phoned M&S - they could not offer an explanation and gave me a non working phone number to call. At this point I gave up and purchased off a comparison website.

Are you sure it was like for like.

My house insurance was cheaper on the comparison site but the cover provided was less than going direct.

Pricing by distribution channel isnt uncommon, those that go to comparison sites are often driven by different factors than those who choose to pick up a phone and ask an insurer for a quote. Similarly the overheads for different channels are different too.

As others have mentioned however some sell different versions of their product over different channels for exactly the same reasons and certainly some do sell a cut down version on comparison sites because there price is king whereas via other channels people are more interested in value rather than price alone.

Certainly work checking the two policies side by side, terms, inner limits, certain ancillary sections can vary. Not all do this and some sell cheaper by comparison sites simply because its the only way to sell on them as most people will switch from a customer centric, strong terms product to save less than £5 per year on an aggregator.
