Chip and debit card deposits
Has Chip stopped accepting debit card deposits? Or am I just unable to find how to do it?

Has the card been added to your Profile?

Yes, I've been using it for the last couple of years or so to do my TSB debit card payments for my fiver.
Just spent all morning doing via NS&I instead. Much more of a faff!

Yes, they removed the card deposit option at the start of March. They did send an email warning me ahead of time, so maybe check your inbox if you received anything.

No such warning from Chip for me.
So why does the app allow a debit card to be added? Is this just to enable the dreaded "autosave" functionality?

Yes, just been in to check my debit card details are still held, and they are.
No such advice was provided to me too.
Another pretend bank not communicating properly...

Below is the email I got from them on 19th Feb:
At Chip, we’re always looking to make your experience smoother and faster.
With this in mind, as of 4 March 2026, we’ll be removing debit card payments as an option for one-off deposits.
We’re doing this because payments via debit card take 2-3 days to settle, are the least reliable, and require the most administration from you if a card is lost or stolen.
As an alternative, you can deposit with open banking, or send a manual bank transfer. A seamless experience where your money lands in seconds, not days.
Please note, debit card payments will continue to be accepted for:
- Card recurring deposits
- Autosave deposits
- ChipX membership fees (if you are a member)

Yes, I gave up on them for proper stuff (I've still got £100 in their Prize account because daft) when I couldn't find the terms for the account I had just opened.
The "one day only special rates" marketing may be an attempt to gamify/popularise/democratise savings products but it's just a bit too Del Boy for me.
Prefer my financial products to be dull.

Chip and debit card deposits usually refer to using your debit card at an ATM or bank machine to deposit cash or checks directly into your account.
…but not in the very specific case of this thread which is about using a debit card with Chip, the investment and savings app/institution.
AI response, methinks…?

I was thinking this, some of the information this person is providing is plain wrong and it all sounds very robot-y! I see what's meant by AI slop now. 😫
