Home insurance -home emergency cover
The policy I am considering is offering home emergency and home emergency plus cover.
The plus cover is offering roofing emergency cover for leaks caused by storms - but wouldn't this be covered on the building cover which says storm damage is covered. What is the difference ?

It depends what's written in your policy, but its unlikely they are selling two different products for the same thing. If it's similar to my cover, the emergency cover would be for the cost of a roofer to come out immediately and make the roof watertight as a short term fix. The house insurance cover would the be the cost of fixing the roof properly, plus repairing any resultant damage from the leak..

Yes, but after a major event in an area it may be a week or more before your Home insurer can get to you. You have a contractual obligation to try and minimise damage so can't just leave a big hole in your roof allowing more rain etc in.
This in theory the HE+ would step in and get someone out to do the temporary repairs for you rather than you spending hours trying to find a roofer who isnt already booked up for weeks from everyone else who called them before you and you have to pay them up front their premium call out charge then discuss reclaiming it from your insurers after with potential arguments if the £1,200 you were charged was reasonable or not.
In practice, HE+ is also going to be getting hammered with requests and they dont have infinite people however its potentially a stronger argument with the Home insurer if temporary repairs arent done quickly if the HE+ policy is to blame. Note that in many cases it will be two different insurers so its not a slam dunk and in particular if bought via an intermediary who glued the two together rather than it being the Home insurer thats setup the partnership.
