Holiday insurance
I’m holidaying in the uk this summer, driving from Devon to Northumberland.
Is there a way to insure against the chance of petrol shortages/ rationing which could stop us driving that distance and therefore having to cancel our holiday?
thanks in advance

Unlikely as it is already a known possibility.

You could buy an EV 😈

I have never heard of such insurance, probably because there has never been any demand for it

Hang on don't these ICE have massive ranges? Seems a common argument against EV's
As to OP question. I'm sure that a specialist co might be able to provide such cover, but dread to think how much the premium would be.

The problem is you end up going to Lloyds (the insurance market, not the bank) and while they will write almost anything, everything is done by lawyers, actuaries and underwriters manually so the price is massive because you're not only paying for their time but its on a contingent basis (ie if you dont buy you dont pay) so the markup has to not only cover the 3 hours working on your policy but the 9 other policies they quote on which dont result in a sale.
Buy something more regular from them then you remove a lot of those processes but minimum premiums are still vast for open market placements. What confuses some is that you also get delegated authority policies for intermediaries to sell hundreds or thousands of policies on standard terms and then the costs are split across all those contracts rather than per contract so hence you do see some mass market consumer insurance underwritten by someone at Lloyds.
