yes I have the new car. They have taken the old car and have completed the V5 so I no longer own it. I now legally own the new car.

No I have not paid the extra £500. However the garage are saying that they won’t close the finance so I will be forced to pay a double direct debit

Tell them to jog on and unwind the deal. Then be sensible and complete the term of your original PCP deal.

That'll cost the OP a couple of months of VED and probably fees for changing insurance too, maybe not the greatest of ideas and I don't think the dealer will be contributing in these circumsatances.

The original car has possibly already been moved on so can't be unwound back to the OP

One option is to pay "under duress" due to their "threats", then once the financial side is sorted, take them to court for the additional amount using the evidence you have and them reneging on their agreement.
Ideally they need to honour their offer, or put you back in the same position as you started with (which they cannot do).

If it's a done deal tell them if they don't close the finance you'll have to recover your loses via small claims.
A mistake can be a reason to void a contract but £500 on a brand new car isn't a valid reason (as you wouldn't know, or ought to have know, it was a mistake), garage made a mistake, that's a shame for them but really is their tough luck as far as I can see.
