Caring for disabled adult who is not entitled to UC
Hi
My son is nearly 18 but will be doing another 16-18 course from September 2026. My understanding that I can continue to claim UC up until the August after he turns 19 as he is in education. He gets high rate PIP daily living and low rate mobility, but has a trust fund which will take him over the 16k limit for claiming UC in his own right, but he is not going to be able to live independently so will continue to live with me.
My question is whether I am able to still continue claiming UC as his carer once he is over 19.
Thank you

Are you aware that not all trust funds affect benefit entitlement? Some trust funds are disregarded when calculating capital for benefits, even where the trust fund contains over £16,000. It will depend on the type of trust fund. It might be worth researching this further and/or getting legal advice.
