FWIW I have an Ohme charger. It works fine but the data connection is cellular and I think Ohme only prepay the service for a limited period. At the end of that period they'll want to charge me a monthly fee.

If I was buying a new charge point I'd look for one with a WiFi or wired network connection.

The myenergi Zappi has lots of happy users on this forum.

I have a Hypervolt Home 3 Pro. It has WiFi and Wired connectivity options.

The app is pretty simple to operate.

Never fails (yet).

Manufacturer provides good support when you need it. UK company.

Supported by many of the domestic suppliers for cheap rate electricity.

Thanks thats great advice - If the BP Pulse fails I will certainly keep this in mind when looking for replacement.

We also have an Ohme - I believe there is a £2 or so charge per month after year 3.

It's been fairly reliable - when 3G was recently switched off it was a bit hit and miss for a month or two. They've issued a couple of dodgy software updates - one where it decided it couldn't charge at all between 1.30am and 2.30am and each manual override added another (random) 30 minute slot where it wouldn't charge. In every case of madness a manual reboot has fixed things.

For the 4G data connection. I'm not aware of anyone who has actually been charged it yet though.

Yeah but what does the 4G connection do, is it needed anyway? As I understand it, the car is either charging or not. And pretty much all electric cars these days have a timer facility where they can delay charging until a certain time (eg when a cheap tariff rate occurs).

it seams simple just to use a 3pin socket. The biggest cost is the election. So putting in a slower charger for approximately the same money make little sense. Further because the charger needs to run for longer periods the process can be less efficient. In winter and depending on car, the battery will preheat to allow full and quicker charging. Some cars will be 20-30 percent less efficient in cold weather. Anyway a lot more than 5w.

Lets you program your charge through the app.

Qualifies you for smart charging tariffs.

Exactly the same as a wired or WiFi connection does. Links the app to the charger so that it works.
