best platform for low amounts

hi, asking for a friend - a pal of mine wants to start S&S investing through an ISA - i recommended interactive investor having recently moved there myself but didn't think about him only starting with £0 and paying in £100/month their flat fee of £6/month would be punitive

I previously used charles stanley but they have a min fee of £5/month

Who is the best % fee platform without a min charge?

Thanks

Then s/he wants no cost or % based, maybe HL for the latter. Does someone know if SnowMan's spreadsheet still works? It might be nine years out of date…

For a simple low cost ISA ( app only) they could look at Dodl ( offshoot of AJ Bell)

Trading212 or Prosper are both worth looking at. No platform or dealing fees.

For funds (OEICS/UTs) I believe freetrade is probably the cheapest at 0. If they want to get into exchange traded then there are several other options but for starting I'd probably not recommend them.

If they want a big brand backed platform then dodl is just about the cheapest for funds if there's much movement (small %), or Scottish Widows Share Dealing if all you're doing is regular investing (free, but £5 to sell).

I have noticed a few times that the prices are different on my Hargreaves Lansdown account, compared to Google Finance.

Today for instance my, my HL account said Vistry shares were 9% down, yet Google says that they are 0.38% up

Are some platforms more accurate than others?

You don't need to guess; for London listed shares the LSE is the ultimate arbiter. Third party websites sometimes have glitches and that is what it looks like: look at the chart.

I can recommend Barclays Smart Investor - no fees for funds dealing, holding.

Or of he wants to deal more with shares/ETFs then IG is decent - also no fees.

When I look at this, it has a closed price, then an upward tick after.

Something odd with that out-of-hours Vistry quote of "316.20". Look at the LSE page today, and there's nothing like that either on the graph (set it for "1W" to get the best granularity leading up to yesterday's close), nor in the listed trades below (scroll down them until you get the ones covering 4:30pm to 8am - when the market is supposed to be closed, but a few are listed, somehow - I see 6, from 16:35 to 17:15, with prices ranging from 282p to 291.2).
