    The final readings from the old meters will be recorded on your bill, together with the date they were replaced. You will be billed with the old meter readings up to that date.

    There will then be a change to using the mmnew meters. The opening readings will be recorded (usually but not always zero) and your new meter readings will be used from that sate.

    It won't mess up your bill.

    @QrizB

    Re the 10 years (sorry for the whole post quote) I was curious about that as my digital that was the first replacement for RTS was only 10 years (but actually pulled after about 2).

    My Liberty smets1 electric (gas may be different due to battery life) isn't in the govt list with certification dates - and another forumite suggested in reply to my post - about where to look instead - suggested that smart - smets1 and 2 - were likely covered by the in service testing / review process - this document refers to a 2014 MID which is later than the OP's 2013 meter though - Ive never read any of the linked reports - as the first doc I tried was more about the statistical methods than actual any mention of meters / brands etc results.

    Note that it does in fact say in the 10-20 years range - but not a number like the old tables (in the c10-c35/40 years range for old analogue)

    It sounds like you have a suspicion that your current meters (or one of, at least) are under reading - did your use suddenly apparently drop after it was installed, by any chance? If so though, it’s every bit as likely, maybe even more likely, that it was the previous meter over recording - and in fact there will be no difference in use when you get the meters swapped.

    If there is well, I’d be inclined to accept that you had a good 13 year run with paying lower bills and now it’s time start paying for your actual use again!

    I think you misunderstood what I wrote. The only 'suspicion' is if new meters were to be installed, the readings might be incorrect (probably leaning towards a higher one).

    My current ones are fine. No issues with them for the last few years.

    They could possibly be lower.but will probably be correct.

    On a side note, I noticed both gas and electric meters have resetted themselves today (28.3.26).

    My bill usually arrives at the 1st of every month; sometimes on the 2nd. Is it normal for the reset to happen a few days before a new month starts?

    Also the electric meter reading includes the daily standing charge but the gas doesn't. That's a bit odd since both are the property of BG. You'd think they'd have the same configuration re. the standing charges.

    The following pic is the electric smart meter I've got, and if you press the green button on the right a few times, the balance shows up; in other words, how much I've spent so far:

    And this one is the gas meter:

    P.S. They're both random images btw from Google.
