Simple Delivery with R.M .. parcel heavier
I sold an item (well, a set of magazines) and the listing had 'small parcel (<2kg) as the weight'
However, when I wrap them up I find the weight is 2.5 kg.
The label has been pre-purchased by the buyer, so what do I do now please ?
I have a few magazine batches listed so I decided to change all the listings, but see that eBay had 2kg highlighted in blue for most of them, which was maybe the reason I added that to the original listing.
I have now changed all to medium parcel, <10kg to be safe

When you go to print the label there is an option to change it to a medium parcel (free of charge). I guess that is cheaper for eBay than a surcharge as I can't think of any other reason for their generosity!

Brilliant !
thanks very much .. I never knew about that option

Another useful tip is, when you list the item for sale eBay will suggest its recommended postage size.
If you accept the recommended size, and the size or weight turns out to be more than eBay suggested, you can still send it and it will be fine.
If however you selected a different size yourself during the listing, then apparently you are liable for any additional charges.

I hadn't seen this until now.
I was just going to ask ..
If an item is listed and weighs over 2kg, but eBay recommends <2kg it would seem wise just to accept the recommendation.
This would mean the buyer pays less, perhaps leading to a sale rather than a higher postage rate preventing the sale.
A win win situation for the seller and buyer .. although not for ebay😀

Ebay pay royal mail based on the actual weight of the parcel when royal mail scan it through the system.
Seeing as ebay SD charges nearly double for small items, then charges a 10kg rate for a 2.1kg item I think ebay are doing OK out of simple delivery. Presumably why they have made it compulsory!
They do tout that it is cheaper than booking direct with royal mail which (for some sizes is true) however sites like parcel2go still beat the rates ebay offer so buyers and sellers are still paying ebay more!

OP here .. another similar problem
I've just listed an item (book) which, when I weighed it, was just over 1kg, so like I always used to do, will list it with postage "small parcel under 2kg"
However, the recommended option from eBay is "Large Letter under 1 kg"
This will of course indicate to a buyer a lower postage.
It doesn't seem right to accept this, knowing it to be wrong even though, as mentioned above, I could change the postage weight after a sale, for no exta cost to me.
What would other folk here do … go by the recommendation, or by the actual weight

I would never go by Ebay recommendation. They are just guessing. You have the book in front of you and you know how thick it is and how much it weighs so you list it accordingly.
A lot of my items are 1 cm thick and less than 100g. Ebay always recommends letter rate at 91p when I know it should be large letter at £1.55. They are key fobs so it is obvious that they cannot be letter rate - but Ebay recommends it!
