Private parking fine with valid ticket!

Hello , I have recently received a notice from a private company via email, stating I had not paid for a stay in their car park. I had actually got the ticket which I sent to them. They rejected my ticket stating it couldn’t be attached to my car because the car reg. didn’t match the picture of my car numberplate. In fact the last three letters were on the ticket and they do match my vehicle. The times on the fine match the times on my ticket as well. I appealed, and the company said they would reduce the fine from £100 to £20 as it was a keying in error on my part. I still felt this was unjust and appealed to POPLA. who rejected my appeal as they said I broke my contract with the company by not putting in my whole registration as stated on their rule board. I did enter the whole reg on the day but somehow only the last three letters appeared on the ticket and I didn’t notice this. No one else seems to have had a problem that day with the machine. So my question is should a valid ticket have been issued to me from the ticket machine if there was a keying error. I paid for my space, and was well within the paid time. As far as I was aware I had a valid ticket, yet I now am faced with £100 fine and threat of debt collection.

Failure of PDT to record the correct VRM and print it on the ticket is a well known (scam) failure. Do some searching on the forum and you will see.

  • Minster Baywatch is the company.

POPLA was pointless; a waste of your time. Should have asked us first. You can't win a keying error (keypad failure) case at POPLA but these cases are won by motorists in court.
