Just read your diary and wanted to say that you're doing a great job in very difficult circumstances! I wouldn't worry about the blip - it's inevitable from time to time and the important thing is how quickly you bounce back from it which you have done immediately so well done!! 🙌
I hope your wife is feeling a bit better now and that the kittens eye has improved 🤞😁

Thanks, the little cat is doing well, the eye is almost completely healed now and she is back to being a little minx towards big cat. OH is doing okay, she has finally got some blood tests booked in for tomorrow to see her hormone levels to see if she is perimenopausal/menopausal and the doc can then decide if she needs any further support. The warm weather has helped with her fibro as well, although the sudden change to heavy rain has rather thrown her this week. We just take each day as it comes and I try and help where I can.

We had a relaxing, but quiet bank holiday weekend. Curled up with the kids on Saturday night and watched a (not very good) fantasy film with popcorn and (for the first time in many months) hot chocolates. I did another big batch of baking, built my model and generally had a very cheap but chilled long weekend.
DD is starting secondary school tomorrow. She is rather nervous about it all, and OH and I are both conscious of how little she will be, she has only just gone 11 so will be one of the youngest in her class. DS has agreed to take her to school and back tomorrow on the bus to show her the ropes, even though he doesn’t go back himself until Friday. I am sure she will be fine once she is in the swing of things, but it feels like a big step.
Little cat is not helping with the money saving- big cat is very greedy and doesn’t care what we feed her as long as there is plenty of it so is quite happy on the cheap Asda cat food. Little cat is much fussier and despite having just dropped her down to two meals a day as she has turned six months, she has barely been eating her food at all and just leaving it and walking away- we had hoped it might have made her hungrier to not get a lunchtime feed but no such luck. To try and tempt her we bought some Felix kitten food and at the moment she is wolfing that down (how long this will last for I don’t know). If she needs Felix, its almost twice the price of the Asda food, although as OH says better to pay twice as much and she eats it than to keep throwing good cat food in the bin as she has turned her nose up at it. My plan was to just keep putting the Asda food down and eventually she would get hungry enough to eat it, but apparently we can’t do that… we have never had a naughtier or fussier kitten than this one and we are both counting down until she can be spayed, heal and go outside- I heard a big crash in the kitchen on Monday night and came in to find she had knocked the tea pot into the sink- luckily it wasn’t broken but she is into everything and you cannot do up a shoe lace or fasten your dressing gown cord without finding a small black menace dangling off it! I love her to bits, but she definitely needs to go outside soon!

my DH thought that the "if a cat is hungry it will eventually eat its food" theory would work too. Our cats ignored this hypothesis until their Sheba was restored. One was a rescue cat who lived rough for a year before he could be caught and then re-homed with us. DH said that the cat was ok with raw mouse, dead bird and bin scraps but offering a tin of whiskas was an insult to his palate 😉. To be fair they have downshifted to Lidl fake dreamies and licketylicks.

My cats are both rescues and are fairly fussy. Including the one who was a street cat!

DD has started school today and we have already had the school ring us up! Apparently they had asked her if she had any money for lunch and she had said no, so the school staff were ringing to ask us to put money on the parentpay so she could have lunch. What DD didn’t think to tell the school staff was that she didn’t need any money as she had a packed lunch in her backpack! To the rest of us, that would probably be the first thing we mentioned to the teacher when asked about lunch, but DD’s brain doesn’t work like that! Unless you ask a specific question, she won’t volunteer any further information so its understandable that the teacher assumed she would be going hungry. Me and OH rolled our eyes and agreed its going to be a long five years!
I popped into the village at lunchtime and popped in to the charity shop- came back with a stocking filler for DD for Christmas and a couple of birthday cards for my Dad’s birthday next month at 35p each so nice and money saving. Also picked up a box of cereal for 50p and two packs of four peshwari naan for 51p each in the chuck out in B&M’s which have gone in the store cupboard for later.
Little cat seems to really like the Felix and has cleared her bowl three times in a row, so it looks like we are buying that for her from now on. I still have four boxes of Asda kitten food in the cupboard unopened, so I will drop those in the Food Bank basket in the village at some point as I am sure someone’s cat will appreciate them!

I would keep some of the kitten food and give it to her once a week.

Is it worth mixing half a sachet of Asda food with half a sachet of felix once or twice a week to see if little cat will eat it then. If so mix more Asda with less felix until he’s just eating Asda xx
