Looking online I think it might be an Pegler Tee valve that's missing it's handle.

Are you sure they’re not meant to be operated by a screwdriver?
”Genuine Ballofix® brass valves, suitable for hot and cold water services, oil and compressed air applications. Operated by screwdriver.
Approved for water services by WRAS and DVGW.”

Not sure about that. They would normally have a threaded centre that the handle is screwed into and the centre is also square from memory.

prity sure, stated using them about 25 yrs ago, because they are full bore. And always used a hex key as the slot for screwdriver is to wide, and will slip marking the fitting. Always have and always will use a long hex key., or up north Allen key.

I see what you mean about the slot now you mention it. Much wider than it needs to be.

I think I've figured it out. There's an original stopcock in the kitchen, which is in a bad position behind a dishwasher, has been extended to a more convenient site outside and which the pipework then returns back in and eventually to where this valve is after it leads to the boiler. It must be a non return valve to stop the original stopcock feeding water back in.
