Good morning all from a sunny but bitter Mehefinland
It's a lazy wind , biting cold and fierce, but the sun is out ( well sort of). Did feel a little sorry for a naked Showman, but the decision has been made and unless it turns very wet and sustained wet, he can manage. He has taken a chunk of skin off sometime yesterday, but i can't find anything in the field he may have done it on. The only other possible cause may be a bite off Fairy as she is in season ( I think) and rather flirty.
Currently making a cake for my friend's birthday - one of those people it's hard to buy for, but I know she adores cake!! It's a Baileys coffee fruit cake and the house smells divine at the moment - I might have to hi-jack a slice lol.
Been talking on-line to another acquaintance who is a 'master quilter' - I had to Google it- who knew there was such an occupation! Very specialised by what I read. I may be actually meeting sometimesoon - just keep those hats in storage please!!
Son has informed me that they are just having a bbq and some cider fro their wedding reception in June. I thought " Not having that, I am NOT toasting the happy couple with a can of cider!! " So I have sourced some cheapo disposable flute glasses from A…n , and I am waiting for the offers to come up on the various supermarkets for some fizz of some sort. There will be about 20 at the 'do' so there shouldn't be too many bottles to get. It will be my little surprise on the day.
I can't remember if I have said about DS wanting to wear something of Dawn's for his wedding day - I found him a little horse broach which he is pleased about. There is also a rather special silver broach in the shape of a horseshoe with a sapphire in the centre which I am going to wear on the day ( it was Dawn's 60th birthday present from me and DS), and then I intention at the moment is to give it to my DIL after the ceremonies are dealt with. It will be hard to part with, but my DIL to be, will get all of it eventually, and I can't see me wearing it again.
Hugs and spoons as always.
Mehefin aka Derek

@dp1 That's good news, will keep my fingers crossed for your parents.
@mehefin The surprise fizz is an inspired idea, and I love your plan to gift Dawn's brooch to your new DiL.

Morning all, just. Absolutely awful weather here, constant hailstones and v windy. A tree came down on the main road last night too, but the council were on the ball shifting it. I felt very sorry for the ocAdo delivery man unloading my order. I knew Ldog wouldn't be happy going up the road for his walk, so as DH was going out we got a lift to the park car park. He was a bit bemused when DH drove off and wouldn't walk until he was out of sight 😀After a quick walk through we met a man& dog who always walk past our house so he was happy to follow them then & we had a chat.
Good news hopefully @dp1
Lovely idea about the jewellery @mehefin
Had a good chat yesterday with our friend, apparently she had a fall in the house, banged her head and hurt her shoulder and back. She was trying to get some strong painkillers from the doc but they had reached their capacity for econsults so she'll try again today.
The chicken /ham pie went down well yesterday,1 for the freezer too. Pork steaks later.
DGs is meant to be playing tonight but it might be called off if the pitch freezes with all the hail.
Take care all

Afternoon all, thanks @RedRuby1231, have a nice day out with O and enjoy the fish & chips too. Pleased to hear the car repair was quick and not too expensive.
Yesterday's on/off showers duly arrived but the late night one was much more than a shower - it hammered down and, with gusty winds, gave the windows a good battering. Chilly too. I was grateful to be in a dry warm house! This morning has started with sun but it's still breezy and chilly with yet more showers to come. I could do with some fresh milk but might just postpone that to tomorrow that looks as if it might be a better day; I do have some long life milk to fall back on if need be.
I road-tested the new cleaning gadget yesterday and the verdict is: 10/10 for effectiveness but only a 7/10 for ease of use. There are 3 brush heads that are quite difficult to attach and take off (probably no good for anyone with arthritis in their hands) and using it with the extension poles is hard work on the shoulders - ask me how I know! 😁 Overall though I'm quite pleased with it.
I took in a parcel for my NDN and, when she came to collect it, she told me they will be moving soon after recently inheriting her late mother's house. I'm pleased for her but will be sorry to see them go, they've been good neighbours for a number of years. I wonder who I'll get next?
I've nothing in particular planned for today but there's always little pottering jobs to do and the sewing pile really does need dealing with. I'll be making some mini Yorkshires to go with tonight's corned beef hash and can pop in a batch of scones to fill up the oven space.
@camelot - Glad you've got a working boiler now, even better to have a good workman.
@TA - Thanks, DS isn't being picky about what job to do and it's early days yet but obviously I hope he gets something soon. It's his first time ever being out of work and negotiating the job market isn't easy.
@Gers - It's been a long time since I bought a Radio Times, these days I confine myself to an 85p guide. My CT bill is still somewhere in the ether.
@dp1 - That sounds a very promising conversation with the SW and I have everything crossed things work out as you'd like them to.
@mehefin - The champers will be a lovely surprise for your DS and his intended. I think Dawn would be happy to see her broaches being used again.
That's it for now so I'll wish everyone a good day. Take care, don't get blown away! X
Be kind to others and to yourself too.8 -
