uPVC window foil repair
Has anyone had the foil repaired on their upvc windows. What is your experience. Is this worth doing?
Heres the worst example of my wrinkly foil:
7 out of 8 of my windows have wrinkly foil
There're some specialist companies that do this, and I am making enquiries.
The questions I have are:
- Can you match colour
- Will I notice the repair
- What guarantee is there
- How long will the repair last
- How is it done
- Can you do window over conservatory
- Can you do a dorma window

I have never had it done, but I have some past experience in the UPVC window industry.
That looks a pretty standard woodgrain finish, so I imagine it should be easy enough to match up. The main thing is that you can not use bog standard foil, it has to be specially formulated to withstand UV and weather generally. It should come with a 10 year guarantee for that.
When UPVC profile is foiled in the factory, it is not just stuck on, but passed through rollers to really put some pressure on it, so I guess anything done in situ would be done more manually.
Seems a bit odd that nearly all your windows foil should crease up like that. Clearly not manufactured very well- presume they are out of warranty.

Thanks for the reply.
Oh yes, these are 20+ years old. Worse at the front of the house which gets the sun all afternoon.
Have found 2 companies that I am in dialogue with.

OP here. Sorry for the delay, yes, i think I have with a company in Salisbury.
They can match the colour (they say). Will remove the old foil from the panel, stick on new foil. It's charged by length so they have to measure up first to provide quote. And, in my case look to see if they could do the window over a conservatory.

Thank you. Now if only I could find a company in Nottingham - looks like it might be new windows, though I am tempted to remove whats left of the foil with a heat gun and paint the frames. If they look a mess then new windows!
