Twins 17 year old - Car Insurance Help

We have one girl and one boy who are both turning 17 on 1 May this year. We are going to buy a small car as an additional household car for the twins to use. They have provisional licences. We wondered how it works with the insurance, do we have to pay double for both of them annually?

Depends how you want to play it. It sounds like a family car that they will have the use of so it could be in an adult name with them as named drivers

Depends what sort of policy you buy… you could buy just a normal policy with two provisional drivers and you/your partner on it too. The up tick for two provisionals will be more than what one would have been but not double, only one can drive the car at the time. Main caution here is being careful on who you declare as the main driver.

Note provisionals are cheaper to insure than recently passed drivers so expect the premiums to increase significantly after the first one passes. The main driver issue becomes more at this point. Google insurance fronting to get the details.

Alternatively you could buy a normal policy just for you guys to use and buy a learner driver top up policy for each of the kids. this will be double because you can't cover more than 1 person on the top up policies. Note that as soon as you pass the insurance becomes invalid and you will need a different solution.

    Expensive times ahead!

Try Adrian Flux, you can buy a learner driver policy from them (different durations to just annual) & they'll also do a joint one for twins. Good luck!
