Gas & Electric - EV Tariff, which one?
I am currently on Octopus IOG Flexible for electric and a Gas fix with the below rates
Electric - 28.22p unit rate (day), 7p unit rate (11:30pm to 5:30am). 51.81p standing charge
Gas (Ends 8th Aug) 5.71p unit rate. 28.88p per day
Our usage was 5921kwh for electric (3452kwh night & 2469kwh day) and 5737kwh for gas per year. Although Electric will increase as we have just swapped the Wife's car for an EV. (Mine is a Plug in Hybrid).
We are still waiting for Octopus to announce the 1st April rates for the IOG Flexible.
I looked at the EON EV Tariff earlier in the week but held off due to awaiting the Octopus rates. This tariff has now increased so is a no go in my opinion.
I have looked at the Octopus IOG fixed rates (1st April rates) online -
Electric 32.01p (day), 5.49p (11:30pm to 5:30am) 54.82p standing charge.
Based on current usage (taking into account the day and night split) this is currently around £50 a year more expensive but if the flexible rates reduce in April this could change to £200+ difference a year.
Just wondering what everyone's thoughts were given on the 1st July 2026 the prices will increase and likely the IOG flexible rates will increase?

Nobody knows as it's very related to the war and all the gas issues. If it stops - the prices should revert to normal, if it gets worse - prices will get worse.
With the fixed tarrifs Octopus lowered them by 3.5p from 1st of April, not sure about flexible. Some of the fixed EV tariffs with Octopus they are quite bad now, so it's difficult to fix for a year - but if prices of gas keep raising then it may be a good choice - especially when you know your consumption will go up due to new EV.
Some of the best tariffs like Good Energy, So Energy - they have withdrawn their EV tariffs to new sign ups - so the entire market is very unsettled at the moment.

In your position with the new EV increasing the low-rate use I'd be tempted to fix even at the current higher prices.
You can roll the dice on the variable IOG rates not going up immediately, but it is hard to imagine that they will not increase at some point soon, especially as the tariff is not currently available for new customers.
Personally I fixed back in Feb right before all the trouble kicked off. Not prescient, just very lucky with the timing on my current fix reaching the 49 day point so Octopus prompted me to refix on the Feb IOG tariff to start when my fix expires next month.
Sheer luck as it turns out.

How many miles will the OP drive in the EV and how frequently will they need to drive?
We have an EV and with reasonable frequency manage to charge on a Sunday when the electricity is free via EDF Sunday Saver. We do not have a specific EV tariff. If we can get the charging at free rates, that isas cheap as it gets and there is no uplift to day time rates in return for lower night rates.

The wife does around 6000 miles in the EV per annum so charging once a week at the moment (Not from 0%). We are only charging it up to 80%.
I have a plug in hybrid that does 50-70 miles on electric. My mileage is around 15,000-20,000 per annum so charge this most nights.

So should be around 1800kWh per car, and HP should be around 4000kWh if.. you have average insulation 3 bed semi..
Still think Go April-October and Cosy through winter.
Now? I'd stay on Flexible till September and then review prices.
