Switching to Octopus
How long does it typically take for a new supplier to start receiving half hour meter reads?
I was on Eon Next Drive and wanted to switch across to Octopus IGO but was told I first need to move across to a standard tariff. My switch went through yesterday(21st March) but at the moment I am unable to move across to IGO as they are not receiving the half hour reads from my smart meter yet. Seems frustrating that I need to spend time on a tariff that is unsuitable for out set up….EV + Solar/batteries.

A couple of days usually, it seems, but sometimes up to a week.

When I swapped across in October last year it just took a couple of days for them to confirm they could get the meter readings. I then just had to do a test charge with my Zappi charger and it was all done.
Will you need to charge your car next week? If it was me, I would set the battery to off-grid (if it allows this) and just use the solar to charge the battery until I was accepted on IOG.

I’ve managed to stay off grid for now but not sure how long I can keep it up for with the coming downturn in the weather.

just had a thought on this. By trying to stay ‘off grid’ could I be be stopping Octopus from taking the half hour reads?

No, if your meter is working then they will get there, you could sign up for Bright / Glowmarkt see if they can get them

No, absolutely not. Before I was allowed to export, I used all my solar on topping up the battery and running the house by being off-grid for more than a week. The half hour meter reads were still fine and I could see that each day I was using nothing from the grid.
