Phone insurance - Apple or through RBS?
Hi folks,
Set up: I have an iphone 13Pro, I've been paying £12 for insurance coverage through Apple.
I recently upgraded my RBS account to the Silver rewards account— which comes with a mobile phone insurance through Likewize Device Protection UK Limited. The fee for the Silver is £10 but you get £5 if you have direct debit and check the app a certain amount of times a month, so it's £5.
Question: I do not know a lot about insurances and coverage. I don't know if it is worth it to keep the Apple insurance for £12 a month, or if that is no wasted money and better to cancel the iphone Apple coverage.
I also don't even really know how to figure out how to even consider or compare these things. I would be grateful for any recommendations on whether the apple coverage is now redundant or if I'm getting something more through apple that this is not going to cover.
Thank you for your time.

Forgive me, but it seems unwise to be paying £12/month for an insurance product (or, indeed, anything else) where you don't know what it is you are paying for.
Unless you can give the details of the Apple product (or maybe it has a standard product name) then it's hard to compare this with the RBS product.
Phone insurance comes in different combinations of coverage - loss, theft & accidental damage are usual, with amounts of excess payable for each claim.

Assuming you have AppleCare+ Theft & Loss then they are fairly different, Apple pays unlimited AD claims and up to 2 Theft claims per year whereas RBS pays up to 1 claim a year. Excess are different, depending on the type of claim one or the other is higher.
The question is also probably on what phone you would be given if the phone is lost/irrepairable? I doubt RBS will be unable to find a refurb unit to give you, some may question how well refurbished they are. There are cases online of people being given a more recent model by Apple and clearly Apple ones will have been properly reviewed.
Note that AppleCare requires Find My to be on your phone for a theft/loss claim. RBS doesnt have it so prescriptive but may argue it under due care.

Apple coverage is probably more comprehensive but the 13 Pro is a pretty old phone now, good though it is. You can pick up a "like new" one for about £300 so paying almost half of that every year to Apple seems excessive.
Most important thing it to make sure it is backed up regularly.
Things that are differerent: draw & drawer, brought & bought, loose & lose, dose & does, payed & paid1 -
Yes, it is applecare+. You have been helpful, thank you.
