These Mr Kipling cakes were marked down to more than the shelf ticket price…

Which bargains have you spotted that weren't all that they seemed?

Not quite the same as the price was at least going in the right direction, but this 70p discount on a £49 product didn't seem to justify the hype:

Often the case that the yellow-stickered items in the "2 for £x" products are still more expensive than the offer price (and are use by today). Can get complicated in the 3 item meal deals when the main's discounted but the range of veg is rubbish and they've run out of puddings that aren't the horrible ones.

Tesco used to run a mix and match 2 for £2 deal on various fruit and veg (you can guess from the price that this was a while ago!) It included Finest apples, which were £2.50 per pack. My local store used to sneakily fold over the shelf ticket so that you wouldn't realise they were in the deal 😮

Regarding the OP, does anyone know what happens if you take these to the till? I have done it before in Waitrose (when there were only reduced packs available, and intending to argue the toss) and when you scan the £1.99 yellow sticker, the till automatically makes it £1.50. It would be useful to know if Sainsbury's does the same.

Not on subject, but I'm an occasional "big shop" in Sainsburys, on the last three occasions I've found the self-scan has differed from the shelf-edge price on an item (always in the store's favour). Last two were a quid on a deodorant and £3+ on instant coffee.

These are items that I happen to buy whenever I see a significant reduction on the "standard" price so these differences were spotted readily, don't check every item going into the trolly - maybe I should, or just those showing Nectar (or Clubcard, or whatever Asda/Morrisons call them) reductions.

Photo of the shelf-edge price gets the till corrected pretty quickly. Have no doubt that these are just errors in paper ticketing that the adoption of electronic shelf price display will fix (probably). How common is that, not seen any examples in my City?

The electronic displays have been dropping in price over the last few years, while minimum wage has been increasing. I think we are approaching a tipping point where it becomes cheaper for supermarkets to deploy the tech than to pay staff to change tickets, so I'd expect these to be adopted at pace over the next few years.

pound land 15 rubbish sacks for £1. £2 for pack of 20. I opted for two of the £1 for 15 = 30. They must think we are thick!😂

Were they of a different quality, though? (Were the £2 pack heavier duty?).
