Good morning
Bright and sunny, but expected to be a few degrees down on yesterday.
We're off to the diy today to pick up the materials DH didn't get last time. I'll be going along and he can drop me off at Lids as there's a few things I need as I haven't been shopping for over a week. I'll probably get something for tea tonight, not sure what.
AA, enjoy your holiday
Ruby, hope O enjoys the birthday treats
Dp1, my heart really goes out to you and your parents, I hope there's a satisfactory solution soon. Hugs x
Have a good day all, take care.

@DP1 I believe it depends on whether it's a six week assessment or permanent care where there should be a financial assessment of your parents. Don't sign anything which is committing you to paying anything they should look into you parents finances in this instance. My elderly friend will have to pay £180 a week during her assessment (although currently nothing as yet has been invoiced after five weeks!) now the SW has decided she needs permanent care she will need a financial assessment by another SW team to look at everything as she also has a small private pension I'm sure the will want some of that according to ageuk they need to leave the person approx £30 a week they are not allowed to take all their pension. I believe the situation changes if the person is transferred from hospital rather than from home. The SW wasn't happy when I explained she had a life time mortgage and there would be no funding from her flat. They also wanted to give her 12 weeks to sell her flat, which due to length of lease etc I've told her was not going to happen.

@dp1 apologies if you know this but the DWP need to be told if any one receiving attendance allowance is in hospital/residential care for more than 4 weeks. I'm not sure about carers allowance but there is also a cut off for that as well. They will claw the money back if you don't advise them

Thanks both of you for your advice
I asked at the care home if there was a top up fee because I can't pay it and was told no, problem is one person seems to tell me one thing and the next one the complete opposite. At the minute there are two empty rooms there. Dad is on respite care until we know mam will definitely be there, I don't think we get charged anything just now, I don't know if that's because it was an emergency placement or because he already had carers.
I didn't know I had to inform anyone about the attendance allowance, so will do so when we get to 4 weeks.
Mam is getting moved to a different care home tomorrow, the one with the NHS beds, until we have the next meeting.
I felt so sad after visiting dad this morning, he is just totally lost without my mam and is declining so fast. Youngest DD went to see him this afternoon and he was sitting with his eyes closed and told her to go away. Everything is more difficult for him because he can't see.
