British Airways compensation - 4 months and still waiting
On a return flight from Cancun to the UK, there was a fault with the electrical ovens so they could not provide breakfast. Over the tannoy all passengers were told that we would be compensated automatically.
A case was raised just over 4 months ago (on 11/11/25) and I spoke to someone on live chat who siad it would take up to 3 months to resolve it. I asked why it would take so long for such a simple claim and they said they have a backlog, to which I responded there must be a lot of complaints if there is a 3 month backlog.
BA did not respond to my email I sent a few months ago , so I spoke to someone on live chat again yesterday and they said the claim is still under review and that the department had been inactive for 3 months.
I was told to wait for the claim to be reviewed, but they are obvioulsy delaying the case to avoid paying out.
The compensation would only be small, but its the principal that frstrates me because they are deliberattely delaying compensation hoping people will just forget about it.
Is there anything I can do ?

Not really. Either continue to periodically chase them, or leave it. What's the approximate value involved? Principles can be expensive things to pursue.

Assuming this was not a paid meal, and offered as part of the flight service, youll probably end up with a few avios or an e-voucher for £20-30. Up to you if that's worth your time chasing.

Assuming this is for business class I've always understood they phrase them as 'complimentary meals' just so that they don't have to provide compensation if they can't provide the meal. Of course they should have stated this as soon as they couldn't provide it. I too would guess you might get a few avios if any compensation is provided.

have flew long haul with BA few times, always in economy and drinks and meals are included in the price of the flight. On short haul, they provide bottles of water free of charge.
I don’t think I’d be going to any great lengths to claim compo for the lack of one meal. I’d have forgotten about it pretty quickly.3 -
Presumably you got a breakfast that did not need cooking/ heating up?

Not a chance, it was economy !

Just some small snacks

Its just the principle, so many companies treat customers so poorly and it annoys me how they think they can get away with it. I made a lfight delay compensation many years ago and they refused to pay out, so did a small claims court form and they paid £1,200 compensation (it was a 27 hour delay)

I wouldn't call the failure of an oven treating customers poorly in this instance. These things happen occasionally.

I’m not blaming BA for the failure of the ovens I understand these things happen.
But the meal would have been included in the price of the flight which is why they said we would be compensated. They would probably charge £5 for a cup of tea on a flight so a breakfast would probably be £20. I had to pay £200 to reserve seats as it was just myself and my daughter on the flight.
It’s the deliberate delay to review such a simple claim in an effort to not pay out that’s the poor service.
