Excessive time for Probate
My MIL made a firm of solicitors joint executors in her will to save us stress. Sadly this did not work out.
These solicitors have been very poor and we are still in probate 4 years in. As they are charging a fixed fee we have continued with them albeit having to do quite a lot ourselves. A lot of money is coming out of the estate, eating into what she left - e.g. double council tax, higher electricity bills due to no DD etc as we still are not able to move into the family home
My question is, are we likely to be able to get any compensation / reduction in their fees. I feel suing solicitors is a risky business.

What reason are the solicitors giving for it to take 4 years?

Various things. We have had multiple solicitors (locums) within the firm dealing with this as time has gone on, so it seems to start again each time. Nothing seems to happen unless I chase them.
Grant of Probate itself took 18 months (apparently - they said they had received it just after I asked for an update).
