Car dashboard tablet
So my car is ka 70 reg VAG brand and the dashboard tablet has two buttons "Menu" & "Home" the menu button stopped stop working as it ran out of warranty. I heard if I nget an auto electrician report which proves it didn't last a reasonable length of time (known fault) the Garage I got the car from should replace it FOC under statutory rights. Is there truth in this?

How long would you say is a reasonable length of time, as nearly 6 years is pretty long already.
There's also the common argument about consumable parts and wear and tear - typically things like tyres, brakes, wipers, filters, clutch, etc however you will find dealers argue pretty much anything as being down to wear and tear.
You would need an independent report stating that the fault was inherent and not from excessive use.
Personally I'd just pay to get it repaired.

It might help as the technical requirement would be to prove the item didn't last a reasonable time due to a latent defect.
Have you searched/posted on any VAG forums to see if there have been similar instances of this happening as that would be my initial starting point here.

Yes and no!
The above replies are correct but just to add even if you did get a favourable "expert" report the garage could still opt to reduce their contribution to the repair cost to reflect the 5+ years of use you have had from the part.
Whilst there is no hard and fast definition of how long is reasonable, six years is the customary yardstick for consumer electronics.
The garage may go above and beyond as a gesture of goodwill but if they dig their heels in your legal rights are not all that strong apart from a pro rata reduction from the normal repair cost.
