Without a battery, a typical home will self-consume about a third of the electricity that's generated by rooftop PV. For a typical 3kWp early-2010s PV system, that might be 900kWh/yr, currently saving about £225pa on your electricity bill.
With a battery, that might increase to two-thirds. So an additional £225pa saving.
The cheapest professional home battery installation is around £4k, which is quite a big outlay for a £225pa saving.
