Defective item return request

Sold a Stainless steel Starbucks Limited addition cup on eBay;

Buyer has requested it be returned as it has arrived scratched.

She's stated that I did not show enough photos in the original listing as I only had one main photo - I had 7. It wasn't damaged and the item she has sent my photos of has a different serial number on!

Spoke with Chat who said as they had not seen the before after product photo's in person there is nothing they can do… Is it worth just sucking this one up?

    What was the selling price?

    If the buyer wishes to return it you will need to issue a returns label at your expense, however once you have received it there is an option to dispute 'Buyer returned wrong item'. If the serial number is clearly visible in your photos (and the buyer is not claiming SNAD and that YOU sent a different cup to the one in the photos) you should be reimbursed.

    To be honest I've never heard of an addition cup so wouldn't know what one looked like.

    If ebay have left the dispute open then you will need to accept a return, and appeal on return.

    Depending on cost involved, if buyer is making a switch of their own older cup make sure you have screen shots of your item with any identifying numbers as you could go to small claims if they return something different. If it's clearly not yours then you could call their bluff and say , really sweetly and politely, that the number doesn't match and perhaps they have mistaken which one they bought from which seller as it gives them a way out when they know they've been caught.

    Thanks - I have issued the returns label so will wait and see what happens.

    I'm going to be pragmatic, it was 'only £37.50' so not sure it is worth the fight in the long-run… I will just add them to the growing list of blocked bidders! 🤣

    if it’s definitely not yours I might be tempted to go for a LBA on return, even if you go no further.

    Please don't just drop it - follow it up. Even if it's not for the money, just for the fact that buyers like this need to be taught a lesson.

    I really want to and this is the sort of thing I loved to follow through on, but had some life changing issues recently with my wife and I am not sure I can commit the time.
