New Build Anti-Competition Claims Leaflet
Hey MoneySavingExperts!
Recently received a post through the door re: New Build Anti-Competition in my local areas.
The content of which is a copy pasta from the website the flyer provided
What Are "New Build" Claims?
• Major housing developers are suspected of breaching the Competition Act by sharing information with Each other
• Housebuilders agreed to pay £100 million into affordable housing as result of the CMA investigation
• These alleged anti-competitive practices occured from January 2022-February 2024.
If you bought a new build home between January 2022 and February 2024, you may have paid more than you should have.
The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) investigated whether major UK housebuilders shared sensitive sales information, including pricing, incentives, and reservation data. The CMA accepted binding commitments from the developers, including a £100 million payment towards affordable housing, bringing the investigation to a close.
Independent economists believe this alleged information sharing may have reduced competition, particularly where multiple developments were marketed and sold close together in time and location - potentially leading to higher prices for buyers.
If you were affected, you could be entitled to compensation.
