Vinted posting parcels box/bag

Hi,

Am thinking of selling a pile of used clothes and Vinted seems to be the best place. The MSE articles mentions buyers "expect to receive a box", but I find this more than odd, as every piece of clothing I receive new is in a bag. Will I really get problems if I send a shirt or trousers in a bag (with a paper lining or inner bag)?

  • I doubt you would as long as it's packaged safely it should be fine.

I always use some form of paper to wrap the item then a waterproof bag ( usually a bin liner or similar ) taped up securely

We use grey plastic bags for vinted and invariably that's what you get when buying.

Vinted rules used to say everything needed to be boxed, but recently people have noticed the option for ' a secure padded bag' being slipped in to some FAQs.

I have a lot of boxes and don't tend to sell clothes, however I would always box a coat or heavy clothing item.

To be frank it doesn't really matter, even if you follow the Vinted guidelines if something ends up damaged, the seller usually loses out.

However, if you want to waste an hour or two, look for some of the Vinted complaints groups on facebook, I despair at the lack of common sense some sellers have. A black 'doggie waste' bag just tied up at the top for small jewellery items seems quite common, people have added photos of clear sandwich bags arriving empty that shold hold baby clothes. In the past few days there have been mugs in a plastic carrier, a casserole dish in a bin bag and a lovely large Christmas glass ornament again in a black sack with absolutely no padding at all!

These are the current Vinted packing guidelines, which is not to say they actually read them themselves or give a seller any protection!

Most of the clothes I've bought off Vinted have always arrived in Poly/mail bags!

I did however buy a new pair of Mountain Equipment walking trousers recently and the seller sent them in a used Tesco carrier bag!!

The bag was slightly ripped, but thankfully the trousers were not damaged!

Thanks all, as I suspected. Also I would never underestimate the stupidity of the majority of the population. We have received an all-in-one computer at work shipped in a flimsy box with literally no other padding. Sent all-in-one and arrived all-in-pieces.

Don't worry though - the fact you're reading this puts you in the top 10% of the population 😊

Vinted parcels arrive in all kinds of packages, well boxed or in a carrier bag closed with sellotape, they are after all mainly from random members of the public .

However sellers have little protection on Vinted for damaged items so reading and using the packing guidelines is a step towards standing any chance of getting compensation if something arrives damaged. It doesn't matter which site you use, there will always be sellers who think sending a glass vase in a bin bag is acceptable.

I maybe shooting my self in the foot but isn’t it obvious that anything breakable should be well wrapped? I buy a lot of things on eBay and sometimes the packing is so good that it takes an age to unwrap it😹
