I wasn't sure where to post this as I've been away from the forum for some time but I'm a long time bank switcher and think I have just discovered the banks may be moving the goalposts.i have had two direct debits set up for years on my switching account (one red Cross and one crisis)but santander refused my bank switch incentive yesterday saying these were not eligible household direct debits, I will try to add screenshot of gulf they sent me,but I think they don't accept charity direct debits anymore,

Hope this helps start a conversation

I've asked for your post to be set up as a new thread as it's not the same subject that this thread covered.

@pedrobok You are correct in saying that banks are moving the goal posts. They are doing this presumably to try and limit serial switchers like ourselves and instead only paying out to attract genuine customers. But in reference to your specific question, yes, Santander in particular have a list of so-called "household" direct debits which are the only ones they accept these days for switching incentives. Other banks have their own requirements (eg. Lloyds has been requiring 3x DDs for their recent offers) and it definately is worth reading the fine print of each individual offer to ensure you meet their respective terms.

Might be better to just have it moved to the current Santander switch offer thread.

This has been discussed loads since its introduction nearly a year ago. Not sure why you posted this in this thread.

Possibly, I don't look at switch offer threads these days as I've long since used them all up. I reported the post to be split from this thread, if you do the same then you can suggest a merge with the existing thread instead.

Some of them have starting qualification dates that will allow you to switch again after 3 years. Barclays for one seem to be rigid on NEVER resetting it, but Lloyds recent one was only ineligible if you'd had one since Jan 2022 iirc?

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Sorry I haven't used the forum for ages, but I just thought that as I had used those direct debits for about 8 switches over the years and then looked at santander terms and conditions it probably would affect quite a few other money savers!hopefully it's in the right place now?

Yes, better not to ask about a completely different topic in a thread asking about something else.

You can still have another go for this offer by the way. Just open another Santander account^ (e.g. an Everyday Current Account), switch in an account from a different bank, and within 60 days of opening your new Santander account set up your 2 household direct debits on the new Santander account and move across your £1,500.

^ Edit: Just had a quick refresh of the T&Cs. You can switch into the same current account you opened for this switch, it isn't necessary to open a new one.

None of them reject them unless the DD Instruction has incorrect information. Santander won't count them since they're not on the list of their approved household DDs though.
