speeding fine 20mph wales, help needed

I received a speeding fine the other week for 26 in a supposed 20mph road.

Ive travelled back to the area along the same route and its signposted as 30mph everywhere. then the signs disappear and this area is where i was stung by the camera. Ive not noticed any terminal signs except for the opposite way where it reduces from 40mph to 20. Street lights are the same in the 30mph zone as the supposed 20mph zone,

Ive been reading TSRGD for wales but its a little confusing as whilst it sets out the requirements to place signage when changing from national speed limit to 20mph it doesn't list whats required when changing from 30mph to 20mph. It implies that you dont need to show any signs and that you should just know which sounds crazy.

Is there anyone with good knowledge of the regulations? Im considering challenging on the basis there was no way to know the limit had changed or very poor signage if so but before i waste my time is there something im missing?

I'm in Wales now visiting family. It's so confusing and googlemaps is wrong most of the time. It was telling me it was 20 on a 60mph bypass road and 30 on a lot of the 20mph roads. I'm not sure what the rules are but I've got a feeling that all roads are 20mph unless the signs say otherwise. Which is great if you live there and know that but not so good if you are just visiting. Sorry I can't help

As we major on private parking tickets here, Free Traffic Legal Advice forum will be your best bet for police tickets. If you do receive a ticket, register there but please note that a hotmail address may not work - try using a throwaway Gmail account instead if you do have trouble registering and post a new thread; here's your link:

Have a read through some of the other threads, including '
Read this first before posting your case' (and use the NiP Wizard) there before you post your own to get the hang of what information they need from you in your opening post - but as a minimum you will need to post redacted photos/scans of all correspondence you've received from the police (both sides, if appropriate) as they need to see all the small print.

Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

As per Umkomaas post on the other site.

One thing I would add though is that I agree the signage is ridiculous. We were there late last year, we could travel on roads with clear 30MPH road side signage but faded 20MPH painted on the roads, whilst sat nav showed 40 or even 50. We stuck mainly to 20MPH in town and villages and watched local traffic on main roads before going up to 30MPH or more on main roads. The signs seemed contradictory, and on some stretches had a 20 and 40 mph signs almost next to each other, and it was difficult to know which was the newer sign. We even found a sign handwritten on one main road saying it was a 40mph road and ignore road markings, but we weren’t sure if it was official or not.

On several smaller roads where we saw some 20 signs we were often flashed, beeped at or had rude hand signals made to us as local cars overtook us at speed, they obviously knew the roads weren’t 20 but we weren’t taking chances with the faded painted signs. We even had a bus overtake us on one road who beeped us for doing 20MPH , which was the last sign we saw a few years previously.
