Can anyone recommend a cheap source of (vegetarian) mild cheddar in bulk please? We usualy go to Asda or Sainsburys and get the smartprice stuff but that has rocketed in price recently and our children get through (literally) kilos of the stuff.

I think Costco cheap cheddar works out £3.88 a kilo, it said Suitable for Vegetarians on the bag, that's for the grated which I think is 1p a kilo cheaper, grated cheese usually helps to use less. One day I might be more organised...........
GC: £200
Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb0 -
If its for use in cooking - I have found it can work out cheaper to buy mature cheese as you can use less.0

Dairy produce in general has shot up in price. Tesco value cheddar is £4.48 a kilo.0

Sharra I use mature in cooking aswell, especially in cheese sauces etc, I think I use less than half what I would of the milder stuff. Some say a good quality farm cheese is a waste when cooking but when you can use much less, I don't think it is. Cheaper stuff I use for 'on toast' and 'toasties' which my family of mice enjoy and DP the biggest mouse goes through loads! One day I might be more organised...........

I noticed i Tesco earlier that "cheap" cheese had gone up a lot, I wanted some for Cheese and Onion pasties ....0

If you want to use your cheese for cooking, Mature cheddar has more of a "kick" so you use less of it than you would the Mild variety. However, adding a small amount of mustard, either in dry form, or ready-made can also zing up a cheese sauce, so that you can get away with using less of it.0

It's not a bulk buy but alot of the cheese Netto sells is £1.19 per 275g - I'm not sure how that compares with other shops. The Red Leicester I have says it's suitable for vegetarians.:wave:0

Not exactly cheap I know!
Depends where I'm shopping when I run out of cheese, I usually get Asda or Tesco's value red leicester (OH won't have anything else  ). If I'm near Netto I'll buy it there as it's not worth the fuel to go to one of the bigger supermarkets.:wave:0
