I don't blame you, they're terrible. Anything I get there I treat as spare or disposable, then I'm not disappointed!

In my experience, for walking or running shoes, there's a disproportionate increase in quality and longevity as the price rises, it's not linear. A £120 pair of proper running shoes will see me through about 1200km of road running and even then they're decent everyday walking shoes for a few months after that. A £60 pair would struggle to provide decent cushioning, grip and support beyond 400km. My decent walking shoes were about £100, and I use the £40 karrimors as spares in the car boot if the others get soaked or too muddy.

At £40 I wouldn't bother. Bin them and buy some better quality ones elsewhere. Vow never to use Sports Direct again for anything.

I have Salomon walking shoes I bought over decade ago, and whilst I don't do huge numbers of miles week in, week out the £120 I spent on them then has been really good value.

Sam Vimes knew all about this problem more than 100 years ago

I am only on my second set of walking boots in 15 years

My current ones are Meindl which were bought in 2020 and cost around £180

The trustpilot reviews for Meindl are dreadful but I suspect it is all people who buy leather boots and dont clean/wax them and the seams rot and the leather cracks from corrosive mud

I look after mine like I would look after a baby
