AO.com failed to deliver regarding disconnection, recycling & installation of my new machine

Recently bought a new washing machine from ao.com.

I decided to go with their disconnection, recycling & installation service. I live on the 1st floor & don't drive, so can't dispose of it at the tip & the bulky waste service needs me to put the appliance outside the property.

On the day of the installation etc, AO said they couldn't disconnect the old washing machine, as they couldn't find the stopcock.

Also, they said they couldn't install the new one on another date after the original delivery.

I'm a DIY phone, so need someone to disconnect & recycle the old appliance (visiting my property) & install the new 1.

Is there 1 person who could do everything for me. I assume a plumber can't offer me a disposal service.

Need it sorted ASAP, spending unnecessary money at the launderette & have 2 washing machines in a small area around the kitchen.

    Have you found your stopcock?

Disconnecting a washing machine and connecting a new one is incredibly simple - take a look on YouTube.

Any local man and van service will get rid of the old machine for you.

    • Most councils offer collection of large waste items, free or for some resonable fee. However, you have to get the machine outside.
    • I've never seen a washing machine connected without a dedicated stop valve. If you really don't have it and call a plumber (or even just a handyman), use this opportunity to add a stopvalve.

There's an Aladdin valve under the sink that I think isolates the water supply to the washing machine.

Igot a 2nd stopcock in my bathroom that is for the toilet, sink & bath/shower.

I'll have a look on YT for details on disconnecting old appliance with new.

I just don't want any flooding in my kitchen!!

I've changed a few washing machines in my houses and never had to turn the main stop tap off. We did have AO supply and fit a dishwasher for us last year, and they did a great job. Sounds weird. You shouldn't need a plumber, just a handy man will do if you know one or ask on a local Facebook group or similar.

I'll ask family & friends for a personal recommendation re a suitable handyman.

It was a while ago that I bought the new washing machine, so don't fully remember why AO couldn't install the new appliance

I'll use AO's collect & recycle scheme to remove the old 1 from my flat (if the handyman can't offer this himself.

I've found the blue handled valve on the pipework for the washing machine, which way do I turn it to turn off the cold water supply?

Photo below of the pipework under the sink.

I've turned it both ways but a lot of water still seems to come out.

I've removed the drain hose ok.

I'll get a handyman if it's not easy to switch off the cold water supply.

On that type of valve with a handle, if you turn it so the handle is horizontal it is OFF

If your on about the little blue part next to wm hose does it fully close?

I had one on my pipework but the plastic part was worn so I had to take the screw out and use pliers to close .

That maybe why the installer never installed as they can't fully turn it off and couldn't find the stop valve for your mains.

    Did you ever find it?

You can see an Aladdin valve as well which I think the plumber put in when he installed a mixer tap.

I'll see if I can turn the blue plastic valve any further without breaking it.

I don't have any tools so I think a handyman could do this project for me.

I think I found another stopcock behind the washing machine itself. Think the pipework must go through to under the sink.

That stop valve looks like it's blanked off

I can't see a pipe going from it to the white cabinet.
