Who did you declare is the owner/keeper on the "owned" version?

There are lots of other factors that impact quotes and so the sequence you did the quotes in, how long the gap was between the quotes and who else was getting quotes at the same time in theory can all impact the premium.

When I did Motor pricing we would assume that duration of ownership was 0 for a quote of "dont own yet" and so generally it would be a little higher, assuming everything else was equal but it was also a bit of a pointless quote because you couldn't actually proceed to buy the insurance. Maybe someone else is making other assumptions, maybe they are ignoring who is the owner/keeper which could have a positive or negative impact, maybe they are intentionally quoting low because they know you can't proceed in the same way some firms slash the price of out of stock items on their websites

You’re not missing anything – it’s just how the insurers’ pricing works.

Even something small like “owned” vs “not owned yet” can put you into a slightly different risk category, which then pulls in different insurers or pricing models on the comparison site.

It doesn’t always feel logical, but it’s pretty normal to see big swings from tiny changes like that.

Worth trying a few variations (start date, job title wording, etc.) as you can sometimes knock quite a bit off 👍
