House Insurance; separate excess charges for buildings and contents?
We're looking at moving to Aviva from Direct Line for house insurance. Whilst the DL policy is clear that a single excess is chargeable for water damage to both the building and the contents, it's not that clear for Aviva. They have two separate excesses, at different amounts, for buildings and contents, or so it would appear. The explanatory text is not specific, but it does suggest there are separate excesses. Does anyone know what is the precise situation? Thanks, Harry.

Aviva probably has nearly 100 different Home policy wordings when you consider their different brands, distribution channels and tiers of products. If it's unclear from the wordings I'd suggest asking them so they can be specific to the version you are considering buying.
Generally you'd normally pay the voluntary excess plus the compulsory once not per section, if there are differences then you'd normally pay the higher. It does ultimately come down to the individual policy wordings however.
