How did you choose your surveyor?

When buying a new house, how did you choose your surveyor? The RICS search shows that there are like 100 who can do one for my new property. Basically all seem to be good. Do you just assign them numbers and roll some dice?

I used the one my mortgage broker recommended. (I picked my broker on a recommendation from this site).

Literally just googled and picked the first one that came up after checking reviews. No complaints. They were quick and efficient.

I asked the selling agent for some recommendations and checked them out on the RICS website. Had a chat on the phone with a few and chose the one who sounded most knowledgeable about the local area and property type.

When I went back to the agent with his findings they couldn’t dispute his expertise as they’d recommended him. It helped them persuade the (fairly difficult) seller to get a few things that needed sorting sorted.

Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the end

I just looked at the RICS website, found 3 I liked the look of, got quotes, went with the best looking quote. (Rolled the dice)

We didn't have one and this can be a viable option for some people on some properties. Just put the money aside to actual spend on problems that undoubtable will emerge with or without a survey.
