Brand New Dacia Spring

I got my Dacia Spring!
First impressions are that it drove well on the way home.
However,
Huge, huge Problem! - Aviva zero have declined to insure it…. I eventually got through to an agent who confirmed that Computer Says No. I wonder if it is because it was registered today and they can't find it, I did manually select the details though…
I have the 5 day driveaway cover ATM, when the registration shows up on DVLA I will have to try the comparison sites.
It never occurred to me that there would be a problem getting insurance cover….
It shows on DVLA as taxed now, and the dealer must have ticked the wrong box as it is due in March not April, so I lost a month. I'll give it overnight for the insurers to pull the data down, or maybe wait until Monday.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

It could be the underwriters, When I was a carer my insurance gave me,
Social domestic pleasure & commuting, plus bussiness cover.
Changed to bus driver, would only give social & domestic, no commuting.
They ended my cover early and did not charge a fee, because it could have remained in place, but was the underwriters issue. This was my request.
So not cancelled, No need to declair to other insurers. Just ment I needed new cover from a new provider.

Tax is correct. As you bought the car in March it starts from 1st March.

You always used to be able to tax in the last 2 weeks of a month where no tax is currently in force, and post date it to start on the 1st of the next month. Obviously the car isn't actually taxed until the first of the next month, but that isn't made clear when you apply. 😉

Yes I cancelled it not them, and they gave me a pro rata refund with no admin charge as it was the underwriters declining to cover.
A bit worrying though, maybe it is such a deathtrap that they don't want to risk all the maimed passengers claiming hundreds of thousands in the event of a crash 😯
It is hardly a specialist high performance car though, although it is not very common.
I'll try the comparison sites on Monday when they've had a chance to collect the registration data, you never know Aviva might suddenly decide to offer cover.

If the dealer wants to they can give you up to a week (?) extra. I bought my car on October 31st but tax is renewed from 1st November every year.
If this wasn't a thing, no-one would buy a new car at the end of the month, and only on the 1st.

Last 2 days, not last 2 weeks - but WellKnownSid is also correct, there is another grace period where a newly-registered car can have an extra week "free", ie its taxed from the last week of a month but it runs effectively 1 week+6 months, or 1 week+1 year. Handy if you know. So yes, the dealer has made a mistake in not knowing about and taking advantage of this concession.

(Yes, my mistake, 2 weeks does seem somewhat over generous for HMG now I think about it 😊)
The dealer told me I'd have 12 months plus these extra days, then when I checked it says tax due 1st March 2027.
I suppose £16 isn't the end of the World, at least I sat there while they took mine into trade and got the confirmation so I will get the refund for April off the old one.

UPDATE: I tapped the reg. into a comparison engine and the details popped up, so I went to as many comparison sites as I could think of, and oddly (well not so odd considering Aviva wouldn't touch it, I bet they share underwriters with a few others) most of the familiar faces, Esure, Hastings, Admiral were missing from the quotes.
I went with AXA in the end as I've heard of them.
In the light of the poor accident ratings and lack of underwriter confidence in the car I paid an extra £30 odd for the enhanced personal injury cover, which pays out for upto £100K of private care and £5K rehabilitation if I'm injured in it. (Nothing like confidence eh? It seemed a reasonable bet with possible odds of 3333:1. I'd certainly feel pretty miserable waiting 18 months for NHS surgery to recover mobility when I could have got it private in weeks)

you are worrying about nothing, it’s a safe car.
My 10 year old car would get 1 star if I was lucky today.
20 year old rovers I used to drive had an air bag and door bars, still walked out of a head on crash with a mimi bus at 40 mph. Air bags did not deploy, We ended up with broken ribs and whiplash from seatbelts.
Car could still drive.
My £550,000 EV I drive everyday has no safety features to protect me.
WAIT, it has a horn.
Drive it and be happy.
