Amazon rubbish delivery date estimate

So, I've ordered a CD (well actually a DVD-Audio) from Amazon, and it says "not in stock, but we'll have it in 1-2 weeks". That's OK, I can wait.
Two weeks pass. An email arrives saying "we haven't got it yet - it'll be another 2 weeks".
Two and a bit more weeks pass. Another email arrives, saying "we still haven't got it yet - it'll be another 4 to 6 weeks".
Where do I draw the line? How can it take them so long to get this item? If it were no longer available then I would understand it, but then I'd hope they would actually tell me that. Will it ever arrive, or will the wait time keep exponentially increasing?
I'd buy it in a real shop if I could find it, but our High Streets seem woefully ignorant of DVD-Audios and SACDs.

Amazon don't hold a lot of stock themselves. Any estimate of several weeks as a delivery date is based on their suppliers estimate of delivery. A lot of those suppliers are themselves using estimates from either other suppliers or the manufacturers. Every now and again it all falls apart.
Check to see if anyone is selling it privately through Amazon. If so you can cancel your order and buy that instead.

Unfortunately these things happen. I have always found Amazon to be excellent and any problems have been through my own making. Surely Amazon isn't the only company to provide the items ... you could cancel the order and buy it elsewhere.
IvanI don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0 -
I don't know what it is with this item (Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells 2003 on DVD-Audio) but nowhere has it in stock. When I first went looking, everywhere said the same 1-2 weeks for delivery. Do these estimates come from some central source - they were very consistent?
I ordered it first at play.com, and it hadn't turned up after a month with no explanation so I cancelled and ordered it at Amazon (again, everywhere still said 1-2 weeks). Chances are the same will happen if I cancel again - I figure at least I'm in some sort of queue now, and I don't want to lose my place!
I'll check out the third-party sellers at Amazon. As I recall they were all US-based, but it will be better than nothing.0 -
You think you've got problems? I ordered a dvd back in February from 101cd.com and I still haven't received it  :mad:Same old same old since 20080

Thanks very much for the link to SendIt.com. It's a box-set that appears to contain the thing I'm after. I'm pretty cautious because there also exists a Tubular Bells 2003 CD with a bonus DVD (not a DVD-Audio), and I've seen this mis-described as if it were the DVD audio, but the product picture on SendIt.com looks right.
Thanks!0 -
Superb. I ordered it at SendIt.com, and it's already on it's way.
It looks like I got the last one (the last one in the world, maybe? ;o). It now says 72 hours availability, and the price has shot up from the £14.99 that I paid to £29.99. Now that's MoneySaving!
Well happy.0
