Building Society AGM voting gripe
I'm a member of around 25 building societies (at a rough estimate).
I'm signed up for AGM voting by information electronically rather than post (which is a huge waste of paper) in most of them, if not all of them.
All fine. Except this year I keep getting emails saying a version of "look out for your voting pack by email in x or y days/weeks".
Don't know why they need to flag it up. I will read, and deal, with the voting pack when it comes, I don't need the heads up that it's coming. Just annoying.

It's a warning to keep a look out for it in your junk mail. I've received three AGM voting emails this week and they all went to junk. I think it's because they're sent by a third party ("cesvotes.com") and not the BS.

I received my Look out for your AGM information coming soon email from YBS about 15 minutes before you started this thread.
Scrolled through the email and deleted it.

A lot of members will have ticked the "No marketing emails" box automatically when they joined, just as they do when signing up for pretty much everything.
A warning about AGM mailings coming soon is not marketing per se, but still gets the Society's name/logo into your inbox. Often that's all marketing is seeking to do, teeny nudge towards recognition and recall.

Very few of the members will be as diligent as you. Only a tiny fraction of those eligible to vote will do so.
Within reason, a few reminders to try and increase participation is surely a good thing and really not a great inconvenience!

Just received one from Chorley BS telling me to "look out" for my voting pack by 10th April. They must think that their members keep a diary of these things.

I bet a few do, their AGM is proper, held last year at Shaw Hill Golf & Spa Hotel, not some nasty online proxy voting thing. Recon that's a decent day out for a fair few locals.

It's also a way of checking the email address still works (my council do it). If it bounces for any reason they can revert to paper in time to get it to you.

Further to my point about BS AGMs being a decent day out, Saffron BS have emailed to say that their AGM on 24/4 will be at Duxford Imperial War Museum and includes a (optional) 1 hour pass to the collection.
It's normally ~£25 to get in there, although you'll have to go some to see over the place in an hour.

I think the AGM-related messages are not classed as marketing according to the rules set out by the Electoral Commission.
