In case it applies to anyone else: Re: Hoover purchased at Argos

Hi all

I purchased a new cordless Hoover to replace an older model a couple of weeks ago. I always buy spare filters when I get a new vacuum but for the last week or so, despite contacting various spares suppliers, I could not find additional filters. They suggest replacing them every 9-12 months and giving a regular wash. I always get a spare set so I can keep using the vacuum while the washed parts are drying. Long story short, went back to Hoover today who initially said try sourcing spares elsewhere, and they confirmed spare parts are not made for this model any longer.

As it is currently around £130 at Argos and also for sale on the main Hoover site, I explained I felt it is somewhat disingenuous for there to be no information stating that the product is effectively obselete and a bit odd that it should be for sale still on their site and Argos.

Thankfully they have agreed and issued me a manufacturer refund code so I can choose an alternative. Argos confirmed the replacement does not need to be the same brand.

Very annoying as the Hoover itself is great, does the job and is compact, but after a year, it would effectively be pointless!

Anyway, thought I would mention it incase anyone has recently purchased or is considering this model from Hoover.

Hoover are clearly not interested in their customers. Any pretence of customer care is an afterthought and they are just taking users for granted.I

Argos aren't much better in their willingness to sell obsolete stock.

I give both a wide berth.

To be fair, I'm a long time Argos shopper and this is genuinely the first problem I've had. Most annoying is I generally check spare part availability ahead of buying any appliance. Not sure why it slipped my mind on this occasion. But glad both Hoover and Argos are okay with the return - I explained to Argos I don't even have the box and they said that's fine too.

But I really blame Hoover on this one. A week ago when I first reached out, instead of suggesting a couple of spare parts providers, they should have just said - no-one has these 'cos we stopped making them! Often the vacuum model number didn't even come up on spares sites. Very odd, as mentioned, it works well so not sure why they stopped spares.

    Oh well, live and learn!

Have you researched third party vendors — often people will make "compatible" filters that fit a particular model long after the original company has given up caring about it?

Yeah, I have often used compatabiles in the past without issue. I did reach out to several possible suppliers. Main issue being they couldn't actually track down the part numbers, to able to go and source possible alternatives.

Irony of ironies a firm did come back to me today, saying they now believe they can special order one from Hoover with a 15-21 day turnaround. Given Hoover's own certainty that the parts are unavailable, I doubt the item would materialise if I paid for it!

Will go ahead and choose an alternative vacuum.
