I have just taken out another years cover with Greenflag - as a new customer @£50 pa

Had I allowed "auto-renew" - it would have cost me £65

So cancel Auto-renew and save money

Or keep auto-renew, but just remember to haggle with them before it goes through.

All insurance companies are the same - breakdown insurance is no different. Loyalty counts for nothing.

Although, since the law was changed, they're not allowed to charge a renewing customer more than they would for an equivalent new customer, buying through the same channel. "Same Channel" can be important - if you bought direct from them last year and went via a Meerkat this year, they can charge different prices. And what is an "equivalent" customer? Same age, same car, same whatever?

It's a bit of a minefield, but yes it always pays to shop around. Far easier these days than when I was first driving, and t'internet hadn't been invented. In those days you'd spend half a day phoning around dozens of insurers and brokers, running up a massive phone bill, to get the best deal :-)

I had Autoaid for several years and never used them. Late last year, their renewal email came with quite a jump on the cost, so I cancelled.

    I don't drive far, so there isn't really a problem ..hopefully 😀

However, I intend travelling up to Scotland soon, so decided to look at new options. Using Go.Compare there is a GreenFlag deal at £21.13 per year, with a £40 excess and this includes Nationwide recovery too.

This seems quite good deal. How would you rate GF .. I have never used them before

    thank you

I used GF, twice in over 20 years - once I broke down in the middle of Scotland (axle broke) and I was towed back home to Portsmouth - the second time - I had a brand new car and the battery died and I had to be towed, 12 miles back to the dealers from whom I had purchased the car 2 hours previous….. no complaints at all from me !
