The benifits of the gold level are pretty good but it requires you to spend 25k which is out of reach for me as normal spending even over a few years. Is there some hack to it? Is there a way to pay yourself and it be eligable spending? I have the money available in savings to do it but it's just if paying by the linked card into savings ect would be eligable spending?

Surely the idea is that you gain most of your points via the bonus points offers? eg 10x points at various retailers, plus the various other offers (eg spend £50 three times and get 500 points)

Possibly but that will still be hard to achieve 25k points without a very high level of everyday spending too.
I was just curious if anyone had found some hacks or ways to help, that's all.

I had an email a few weeks ago actually offering me 1,000 points just for signing up which I did but the points never got added and when i contacted them about the missing points they said they never had such an offer and it was a known scam!?

From their T&Cs: https://www.paypal.com/uk/legalhub/paypal/ppplus-tnc
How You Earn PayPal+ Points
Earning Points Through PayPal Spending
You earn Points when you use your PayPal account or other PayPal services to make payments. We'll show you the Points you can earn for different activities and earning rates on the PayPal App, PayPal+ page, or through our emails and communications. The earning rate that applies is whatever's current when you complete your purchase or action.
Use the PayPal Debit Card to maximise the Points you get. But here's the thing - when you're shopping online with PayPal checkout, your PayPal Debit Card earns at the top rate only where your PayPal balance is used for that purchase. When your balance only covers part of such payment, you won't get that top rate on full amount.
Some transactions don't earn Points, including domestic personal transactions, money transfers to and from third-party provider or third-party account funding activities, payments related lotteries, casinos, sports betting, fantasy sports, social gaming, or other forms of gambling (whether online or in person). We'll let you know about any other exclusions that apply to PayPal+.
We might not be able to tell you if your purchase qualifies for Points or how many Points you'll earn until after you complete your purchase. Your Points balance in your PayPal App and on the PayPal+ page gets updated once we determine your Points earned.

The offers are the way indeed: 10%, plus another 1% if you use the pp debit card. Still a lot to spend, I make it £2272 by the end of the December, but perhaps manageable - especially if you use Ocado or Iceland for supermarket.
JD sports are also 20% for some reason.

From what I can see though these retailer offfers are time limited and also capped at 2,000 points so there doesn't seem a way for example you could collect from doing your iceland or ocado shop each week and generate all the points required that way, those offers won't always be there and they are capped when they are to 2k points.
How many people actually spends 25k a year on normal debit card spending to qaulify for the higher tiers. Wowee.

They do seem to repeat, although for sure if they don't …… £25k regular spending isn't happening :-)
It doesn't take that many of those offers though to get there though. For example, I did one JD sports 20%, £100 got me 2k of the 25k needed points. I'll prolly be in Debenhams at some stage, John Lewis maybe for some Apple stuff. Will try remember to use ticketmaster and uber offers too.

Yeh i guess with the retailer offers and also the pay pal offers they do like the 500 points for so many spends ect it can stack up and you can get there easier than I thought, especially if you do your weekly shops at Iceland and Ocado. The issue for me personally is I don't shop most of these places with the offers nor have reason to, switching to Iceland for the big shop seems a false economy as other supermarkets are cheaper anyway, so I guess it's not happening for me. The higher tiers are pretty decent though, £10 credit each month and paying £12 worth of monthly subsciptions for you and the higher cashback rates, it seems worth it if you can get there.
