Emirates Flight Transiting Through Dubai

Interesting, that's at odds with what a poster on the other Dubai thread reported on Tuesday 10th…
"I'm with Nationwide/Aviva for travel insurance. Took me 3 calls to Aviva to get total confirmation that you are not insured with them if the transit country is on the 'all but essential travel' list."
I'm also with Aviva through Nationwide but haven't contacted them yet as I've got a few weeks to go but I'd make sure you get them to give you that confirmation of cover in writing.
My concern with all the delays caused by the conflict is that the connection is missed and I'm stranded in the war zone.
It only takes one mistake or hostile act to take out an unarmed civilian airliner. I can always book another holiday when things are stable so, while the government advice (not just ours) is to avoid the region, I don't think I'll be going even if I lose the money. My life and that of my family is worth more than that.

That was 2 days ago, a lifetime in these days of the Trump administration, things could very easily have changed.
Insurers buy reinsurance which covers them if losses exceed certain values. They need time to speak to reinsurers etc to understand if they say they will cover something the policy wording strictly states they won't if they will still have the backing of their reinsurers or if they will be shouldering the cost alone. Reinsurers also do retrocessions to other reinsurers so again sometimes they can't instantly answer either without checking.
It's why insurance is so reliable because the risk is shared and diversified but makes getting quick decisions difficult because there are so many to engage unless the government steps up and says they'll pay for everything and even then the devils in the detail (Flood Re took an age to setup for similar reasons)
