Is this a telephone scam?

Ive come home from work and a telephone number has called me. The number starts wth 08700 and when I have listened to my answerphone, the actual message says "press 1 to hear the message again, press 2 to delete" etc. I then get my usual telewest message asking if I want to delete, save, hear again etc.

Is this a telephone scam? If I press one of the options am I going to connect to something and be charged a fortune.

I have put the number into https://www.saynoto0870.com and nothing comes up.

Have you done a google search (just place the full 0870 number in the search field).

Thanks for that, I put the number in 08700500198 and it has come up as some sort of NTL scam. The only thing is I worry about when my mother is at my house and answering my phone. She is so trusting she will give anyone any info. She once gave a complete stranger her bank details to switch her gas and electic and then rang me to ask whether she should have done or not.

This number belongs to the RHL Contact Call Centre in Scotland.If you have any complaints about it call 0141 272 1105 and ask to speak to Alision Blair the Customer Service Centre Supervisor.
