Universal Credit transition protection withdrawn

Hello,

I am wondering if anyone can help me.

I have been claiming Universal credit since migrating from ESA last year, with the transitional protection included.

I live at home with my sibling and mother, but unfortunately at the end of last year my mother was taken very poorly in to hospital where she still is and will not be able to return to the rented family home, as her mobility needs will not allow.

The rent was always covered by housing benefit so we didn’t need to make a claim ourselves previously.

The landlord has allowed myself and my brother to remain in the property on a new tenancy agreement, we put a note in the UC journal and they are now paying the rent

However I have now lost my transitional protection due to a “significant change in circumstances”…..the only change is that I now need to claim rent?

I am still living in the same property as I always have been and they know this.

I am now over £240 down per month and honestly don’t think I can now afford this property, as the energy prices and general household costs have risen by one less household member being here as it is, this is going to have such a drastic effect.

I guess what I’m asking is if anyone knows if this is a “significant change of circumsrance” to warrant the transitional protection being withdrawn, or is there room to fight the decision?

Any help would be so very much appreciated

Transitional Protection is designed to reduce by any additional UC entitlement you become entitled to after migration.

In your case it is correct that your TP has been reduced by the amount of the new Housing Element.

There is nothing you can do unfortunately.

Because your housing costs have increased. Any increase in any UC element will erode the TP.

As above, the TP ended because it was eroded not because of a significant change in circumstance.
